Is Laser Surgery Right for You?

First of all, you have to consult with your surgeon to find out if the treatment suits you. If you have wrinkles, acne, blemishes or fine lines around your mouth, forehead or eyes then you may be an ideal candidate for laser surgery. But, people with dark skin with the same case are not suitable for laser skin resurfacing.

It’s very important to inform your surgeon if you get blisters or cold sores around the mouth as the surgery may develop more complications later on. Also, you should completely avoid taking medicines such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Smokers are at a higher risk thus, you should completely stop smoking before and after the surgery. Nevertheless, the doctor will recommend an antibiotic right after the surgery in order to avoid bacterial infections particularly if you have fever blisters.

What happens after the surgery?

The treatment will just take about 30 minutes to 1 hour time. You can go home the same day right after the procedure. You will be given a local anesthesia or sedation to numb the areas that needs to be treated. After 24 hours of surgery, you will have to clean the areas at least 3 to 4 times daily and apply the prescribed ointment in order to prevent scabs. You may experience a minor swelling or itching but it will settle down after some time. Following the surgery, for five to seven days your skin will become very dry. You need to avoid any kind of make-ups for at least 21 days. Remember, to use sunscreen that protects your skin from ultraviolet A and B rays.
